Codex Early Music Ensemble was founded in the autumn of 1996 by professors and students from the Department of Music at Transilvania University of Brașov. The ensemble is primarily dedicated to exploring and performing music from Transylvania and Eastern Europe. The music collection that gave the ensemble its name contains the popular Transylvanian repertoire from the mid-17th century. In 2023, the ensemble was awarded the Hungarian Heritage Prize for its outstanding interpretative work. The programme features music from the Codex Caioni (1634–1671) as well as other Transylvanian sources.
